On December 20, fathers were spotted standing at the school gate of Shungeng Elementary School to protect students in Jinan City, Shandong province.

These Fathers volunteered to set up the “Guards of Fathers” to maintain school safety, following a spate of school attacks since 2010 which have left at least 21 dead and some 90 injured.

The most recent attack took place in the village of Chenpeng, Henan Province on December 14, when a knife-wielding man broke into a primary school and stabbed 23 children and an elderly woman. All of the victims survived according to reports.

The attacker, now arrested, was said to have mental health problems. His attack was motivated by the doomsday rumors.
