A 7-month pregnant woman in Ankang city of northwest China’s Shaanxi province has been forced to abort her unborn baby, under the circumstance that her family was not told in advance.
The local National Population and Family Planning Commission (NPFPC) made a response recently on its official website, saying that the woman was pregnant beyond China’s one-child policy (which means she was pregnant with another child and did not have the required birth permit based on China’s one-child policy).
The authority added, the pregnant woman herself accepted the surgical induced abortion after the local officials have talked with her.
But an online post has revealed that the local authority illegally detained the pregnant woman, and violently forced her to terminate her pregnancy, which has triggered a wave of intense indignation and denouncement among the public now.
The post did not tell whether the woman, from the Northeast, already has a child. It just disclosed that she was not allowed to give birth when pregnant because her hukou (registered permanent residence) was not registered in the town of Ankang city with her husband.
“The thugs then dragged the pregnant woman to a car by force,” the country folks spoke for the victim.
Later, they came to the victim’s husband to ask for 40,000 yuan in private to get the matter done, but the husband refused as he did not have that much money.
When the husband was busy running between his hometown and his wife’s hometown to try transferring her houkou registration, their 7-month unborn baby was killed.
Though more than a week have passed now after the forced abortion, the poor mother still could not walk out the pain of losing her child. She attempted to kill herself by bashing her head off a wall for several times.
